  1. SYN_ergy

SYN_ergy is a participatory audiovisual experience where spectators are immersed in an 180 degree sound and visual piece that they can collectively control by means of bodily interaction.
On one hand it is an audiovisual composition presenting a dramaturgy with different sections (see link for samples of the aesthetic). On the other it is a generator of sound and images that allows the spectator to interact by moving their bodies.

A depth sensor observes the area where the spectators are sitting and extract parameters such as the distance from the camera or the amount of movement. Since these parameters are the result of a collective behavior and series of actions it is not the individual that can control the audiovisual composition. In fact he or she can deliberately negotiate movements together with others or proceed independently with their own agenda. It is an exercise of perceiving the result of our own action on the media while being aware of what others are doing.

2.  Polyphony for minds and stars

Polyphony for minds and stars is a music composition generated in real-time out of the EEG signals of the visitors of the planetarium.
By means of eeg headsets the visitors will be wearing, a software extracts and interprets the brain signals and transcode them into parameters controlling the creation of a soundscape. The interpretation of the raw signals aims at putting forth the emotions of each spectator as well as the relation among them. Other parameters translate the overall mood of the crowd.

A system translates emotional parameters into sonic characteristics of the music created. The number of active minds is associated to the size of the sound masses (few droplets or cloud of sounds) while the intensity and quality of the activity can correlate to the density and textural quality of them, being smooth and soothing or harsh and noisy.
